This page includes publications referenced in texts written for this site, most of which were previously unavailable in electronic format. For each publication permission was asked and granted. Notes accompany three publications of particular historical and educational interest.

NOTE In this conference publication the terms “geomembrane” and “geotextile” were first written. A clipping from the handwritten manuscript appears on the front page.
Giroud, J.P., 1977, Les Géotextiles, Le Moniteur des Travaux Publics et du Bâtiment, 51, Paris, 26 Décembre 1977, pp. 61-67 (in French), with permission from the Groupe Moniteur. (Referenced in Communicator)
Giroud, J.P., 1990, Functions and Applications of Geosynthetics in Dams, Water Power and Dam Construction, Vol. 42, No. 6, June 1990, pp. 16-23, with permission from Business Trade Media International. (Referenced in Communicator)
NOTE The two papers above are noteworthy for their combined use of sketches and text that are tightly interlinked. Such intimate association of sketches and text is rare in engineering technical writing. Considering that visual literacy is scantily researched for engineering at an advanced level (university and higher), we include these papers in the hopes that they may be useful for a future researcher.
